I'm a Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Arizona. Prior to arriving in Tucson I worked at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, and before that I got my Ph.D. from Lund University, Sweden. I have also held a visiting position at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing, China, and taught at various universities in Russia and Belarus.
My main research interest is computer security, in particular the so-called Man-At-The-End Attack which occurs in settings where an adversary has physical access to a device and compromises it by tampering with its hardware or software.
I am the primary developer of the Tigress obfuscation tool.
With Jasvir Nagra, I am the author of the first comprehensive textbook on software protection, Surreptitious Software: Obfuscation, Watermarking, and Tamperproofing for Software Protection, published in Addison-Wesley's computer security series. It has also been translated into Portuguese and Chinese.
With my colleague Todd Proebsting I am also working on the reproducibility, repeatability, and sharing in Computer Science research. You can read more about it in our CACM paper, on our repeatability website, or visit our findresearch.org site.
